Job Summary:
Emergency Room Nurse - Alexandria, Virginia. This role involves providing critical care in a combined adult and pediatric emergency department. The nurse will handle a diverse patient population with conditions ranging from high-acuity cases such as STEMI and strokes to routine treatments for sprains and sutures. The position requires flexibility to work day shifts and overnight hours.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with flexibility to work 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Required Qualifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications; minimum of 0 years experience; valid Virginia state licensure; reliable transportation; ability to work both day and overnight shifts.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a combined adult and pediatric emergency department, familiarity with routine vasopressors, insulin, and sedation protocols, and ability to adapt to varying patient acuity levels.
- Float: Float to Springfield Healthplex location as needed.
- Additional Information: The department teams for a patient ratio of 4:1, stretching to 5:1 during peak census times. Shifts include weekends (every other weekend), a holiday coverage on the Fourth of July (day and evening), and on-call requirements are not applicable. Electronic Medical Record access (Epic) is required.
