Job Title: Dialysis Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Dialysis Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, possible 11:00 AM - 11:30 PM (rotational shift) Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Peritoneal dialysis experience Competent with hookup and disconnect AVF/AVG cannulation CVC access Recognition and management of hemodialysis complications and emergencies Peritoneal dialysis site care and catheter care Peritoneal dialysis initiation and termination Description: Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated within the past year. Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination. May be asked to precept as needed. Candidates will float as needed between campuses which are located 16 minutes apart. Unit is specialized in dialysis care. Nurse to patient ratios are 2:1 and 1:1 during treatments. Common diagnoses include end-stage renal disease and acute renal failure. Will treat patients in the acute hemodialysis suite and in the ICU on a 1:1 basis. Patients are on telemonitoring in the acute suite with a monitor technician reading strips. In the ICU, monitoring is done at the bedside and central monitoring is utilized. A charge nurse may take an assignment if needed. There are no nurse aides on the unit. Registered nurses are responsible for titrating heparin drips. Common titratable drips include amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, and milrinone. Equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP may be utilized in the ICU with the assistance of ICU staff. Weekend shift requirements are six per six-week schedule, which may include Friday night, Saturday day/evening, Saturday night, or Sunday day. On-call duties may include one night per week and every other Sunday. First to float requirement between campuses as needed. Scrub color is navy blue, and scrubs are provided. The hospital can cancel shifts under specific conditions during the assignment. The charting system used is MEDITECH.
