Job Title: Dialysis Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Dialysis Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Work shifts scheduled, night and weekend shifts Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Six months of experience in a chronic dialysis facility preferred. License: Current Registered Nurse Licensure within the state of Utah. Certifications: None specified Must-Have: Excellent attendance record; professional appearance and conduct; ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Description: Deliver care to patients using the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Round with physicians, implement, and follow up on orders. Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care. Assist before and during dialysis procedures, following physician's orders. Oversee dialysis technicians as they perform daily duties. Supervise dialysis of chronic renal failure patients. Help establish a plan of care for each patient and provide consistent, effective dialysis according to plan. Provide follow-up of medical orders for each patient and assist in adjusting each dialysis to the patient's particular physiologic imbalance. Assist in evaluating the social integrity of each patient and recommend interventions as needed. Set goals (immediate and future) for the patient, planning these goals with the patient, physicians, social workers, dietitian, staff nurses, and technicians. Periodically review these goals with the same team. Ensure safe dialysis by checking and testing supervision of dialysis equipment and supplies before initiation. Monitor patients and equipment throughout dialysis. Ensure cleaning, disinfection of equipment, and stocking of supplies, and help maintain them in safe and efficient working order. Instruct patients in self-care to prevent complications between dialysis treatments. Record and communicate information about patient records and plan of care to other healthcare personnel, and transfer this information if the patient is admitted to the hospital or transferred to another outpatient center. Supervise recognition of emergencies, provide instruction in emergency care, and ensure emergency equipment is available. Involve patients in their care by providing education on dialysis and related topics, including dietary and fluid management, medications, chronic renal failure, principles of dialysis, vascular access, and its maintenance. Coordinate consultation with a dietitian. Assist in plans for unit changes. Provide for ordering of medications and supplies, ensuring the unit is well stocked with all necessary equipment. Attend staff meetings or review minutes with the dialysis manager. Complete all required education. Work at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, administration, and staff. Represent the organization positively and professionally in the community. Comply with all policies regarding ethical business practices and be familiar with human resource policies.
