Position Overview
Seeking a highly experienced CVICU RN for a fast-paced, high-acuity cardiovascular intensive care unit. Candidates must be able to independently manage complex cardiac surgery, mechanical circulatory support, ventilated patients, invasive monitoring, and multiple titratable drips immediately upon arrival.
Patient Ratios
Ratios are based on acuity:
- 1:1 for high-acuity patients
- 1:2 for standard ICU assignments
- 2:1 for exceptionally complex patients requiring two nurses
Non-Negotiable Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent, dedicated CVICU experience
- More than 2 years strongly preferred
- Recent travel ICU assignments preferred
- Must be proficient with the unit’s patient population and equipment without requiring extensive training
- Must independently interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythm strips
- Must be comfortable caring for multiple critically ill cardiovascular patients simultaneously
Required Device and Equipment Experience
- IABP
- Impella
- Swan-Ganz catheters
- ECMO
- CRRT
- External and temporary pacemakers
- Mechanical ventilation
- CPAP and BiPAP
- Heated high-flow oxygen
- Inhaled nitric oxide
Required Certifications
Preferred
Staffing and Support
- Charge Nurse available 24/7
- Charge Nurse may take a patient assignment based on staffing and census
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- ICU provider coverage available around the clock
- Cardiovascular and critical-care advanced practice providers available most of the time
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Patient Care Technicians support approximately 12–15 patients, depending on staffing
- Monitor technicians are available, but RNs must interpret and document their own rhythm strips
Floating
Travelers may float to any level of care based on hospital needs and are expected to accept a full patient assignment appropriate to that unit.
Dress Code
- No required scrub color
- Scrubs are not provided
- Attire must be clean, professional, properly fitted, and appropriate for the clinical setting
Cancellation Policy
The facility may cancel up to 12 hours during a 13-week assignment.
