Job Summary
The ICU Cardiovascular Specialty Nurse is assigned to a high-acuity unit in the Chicago, Illinois area. This role involves managing post-operative open heart surgical patients, including those with cardiovascular events requiring intensive care and advanced intervention equipment. The position demands a nurse with established expertise in cardiovascular intensive care, capable of delivering quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Job Details

- Shift: Nights, 12 hours (7:00 PM 7:00 AM)
- Hours Per Week: Minimum 36 hours
- Start Date: 08/17/2026
- Certifications: BLS (AHA) required; ACLS preferred; CCRN a plus
- Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of solid cardiovascular ICU experience; ability to interpret strips; proficient with ventilators, pacemakers, and titratable drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, and vasopressors; strong assessment skills, critical thinking, communication, organization, and teamwork required.
- Schedule & Additional Notes:
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday dayshift or Friday and Saturday nightshift) and every other holiday.
- Float to various care levels; team-oriented assignment.
- No self-scheduling, block scheduling not available.
- Appropriate, professional dress code.
- Responsibilities: Managing complex cardiovascular patients with devices including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT lines. Handling ventilated patients and multiple invasive lines daily. Interpreting telemetry strips; managing titratable drips and advanced interventions.
- Additional Information: The unit primarily manages post-open heart surgery patients, including those with VADs and transplants, utilizing advanced cardiovascular equipment and protocols.
