Job Title

Registered Nurse – CVICU (ECMO Specialist)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 3x12 Hours) | Every other weekend required; subject to change based on unit need

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide critical care nursing for patients with diagnoses including post cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, ARDS/respiratory failure, and other acute illnesses requiring ECMO support
  • Manage ECMO devices (Cardiohelp and Centrimag consoles) during bedside ECMO cannulation and/or cannula repositioning procedures
  • Operate specialized equipment including the Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit and glucometer for point-of-care testing
  • Work collaboratively alongside ICU RNs and Respiratory Therapists, following established ECMO order sets and provider team direction
  • Float between CVICU (adult) and PICU (pediatric) units as needed based on census and patient care requirements
  • Complete required pre-assignment modules and maintain proficiency through ongoing ECMO-related continuing medical education
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
  • ECMO Specialist experience, including completion of an ECMO specialty device course and required CMEs to maintain proficiency
  • Both pediatric (PICU) and adult (CVICU/ICU) critical care experience
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a CVICU or equivalent critical care unit
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with EPIC EMR
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience managing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support for cardiac, respiratory, sepsis, shock, and trauma-related cases
  • Familiarity with Cardiohelp and Centrimag ECMO console operation in a clinical ICU setting
  • Experience floating between multiple ICU unit types within a large health system
