Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: CVICU experience required; Traveler must have Basic Arrhythmia experience; Minimum of two years of acute care experience within the last three years in the specialty required. License: Wisconsin RN license required Certifications: AHA BLS and ACLS required Must-Have: Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required. Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred. Traveler will be required to pass a telemetry test prior to being cleared to start. Description: Night shifts, working from 19:00 to 07:30, with every other weekend and some holidays required. No call is required. The unit specializes in the care of cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplant, and cardiac medical patients. Duties include accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, assisting with chest tube insertion and removal, and managing ventilation needs. Nurses will care for a mix of patients requiring specialized care such as those recovering from CABG, valve repair/replacement, and heart failure. Staff assignments may change throughout a shift, as patients are transferred in and out of the unit. The nursing team is made up of care team leaders, rapid response nurses, and registered nurses in direct patient care assignments. Nurses typically care for 1-2 patients but may be assigned up to 3 general care patients if acuity is low. Nurses are supported by nursing assistants and other interdisciplinary support services as needed. Staff will be required to use a variety of specialized equipment and manage complex patient needs. Close attention to detail is essential in this dynamic work environment. Care is delivered with technological expertise and a commitment to meeting patient and family needs. All candidates must comply with pass/fail testing regarding telemetry competency, with strict passing criteria for lethal rhythms.
