The RN provides care to these patients through the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is crucial to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs. Implementing the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures is essential. The RN modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety is imperative. The RN communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Providing constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers is encouraged. The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs and taking the initiative to address them is expected. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Department-specific job functions include providing direct care of CVICU patients such as post-operative CABG and vascular patients. Maintaining a clean and tidy work environment is necessary. The RN must maintain hospital and unit-based competencies. Hourly rounding on patients is required. Proactively seeking opportunities to assist internal and external customers is valued.
