Job Title: CVICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have 1 year of experience with the designated patient population. RNs must be able to titrate drips. RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips. Description: The unit cares for patients recovering from open heart, complex thoracic, and vascular surgeries. Typical patients are stabilized and supported by advanced devices such as impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO. Common procedures include advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, and various vascular interventions. The unit supports complex cases coming from different areas such as the cath lab and emergency room. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1. There is a charge nurse on each shift, and they do take an assignment. There are no nursing assistants or patient care technicians on this unit. Hospitalists and intensivists are in-house 24/7. RNs are responsible for troubleshooting all respiratory equipment, including vents and CPAP. There are no telemetry techs, therefore RNs are required to read their own strips. Shifts are scheduled as 0630-1830 or 1830-0630. Every other weekend and holiday duty is required. RNs will float to all inpatient units, excluding maternity and NICU. Scrub color required is navy blue. Charting is performed using the EPIC system. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the contract period. The role involves direct patient care in an acute care setting.
