Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Strong critical care experience, including cardiovascular intensive care unit experience Skills with pulmonary artery catheter and hemodynamic monitoring required Preferred experience with intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, and continuous renal replacement therapy Description: The position involves caring for patients in a cardiovascular intensive care unit. The unit has a total of 16 beds with patient ratios of 1:2, and 1:1 for certain device patients. A free-floating charge nurse assists staff, with unit secretaries and administrative care technicians available during daytime hours on weekdays. There are also student nurse externs who assist nurses by performing tech duties on variable shifts. The unit is equipped with Phillips bedside telemetry monitors, Hill-Rom beds, and Alaris IV pumps. Documentation is conducted using a Meditech system. Scheduling requirements include working 2 weekends per month and one summer and winter holiday. Staff members may float to other intensive care units as needed. Procedures performed in this unit include providing care to post-operative cardiac surgery patients. This includes patients on ECMO, Centrimags, and HM3 LVADs. Nurses will also perform central line insertion, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, and intubations. The dress code requires scrubs in black, red, or galaxy blue, with scrub jackets or vests. This unit has received recognition for outstanding teamwork and patient care. It features a strong team of nurses and is supported by intensivists who are available 24/7 to ensure high-quality care.
