Shift: Days/Nights | 7:00 AM/PM – 7:30 PM/AM (12-Hour Shifts)

Schedule: 36 Hours per Week (Guaranteed)

Job Overview

New London Hospital is seeking an experienced Stepdown/Progressive Care Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment. This position is ideal for an RN with a strong Medical-Surgical and PCU background who is comfortable caring for moderately complex patients in a collaborative Critical Access Hospital. Candidates should possess excellent clinical judgment, leadership abilities, and previous charge nurse experience while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to Medical-Surgical and Stepdown (PCU) patients with varying levels of acuity.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized nursing care plans.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, hemodynamic status, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments according to physician orders and hospital policies.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, respiratory therapists, case management, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Utilize critical thinking to recognize and manage patient deterioration.
  • Accurately document patient assessments and treatments using the Epic electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide patient and family education to promote recovery and safe discharge planning.
  • Serve as a resource and leader to nursing staff when functioning in the charge nurse role.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of current Medical-Surgical RN experience (Required).
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience (Required).
  • Previous Charge Nurse experience (Required).
  • Epic EMR experience (Highly Preferred).
  • Previous travel nursing experience (Preferred).
  • Must have a personal vehicle available for the assignment.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Active New Hampshire RN License or Compact RN License
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association)

  • Patient Ratio: Up to 6:1
  • Support Staff: Two Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs), Nurse Lead, and House Supervisor
