Job Title: Cardiac Cath RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Previous cath lab experience Description: The unit consists of 2 labs and 6 pre/post beds. On average, there are 3 catheterizations and 2 angiograms per day. Common diagnoses include STEMI, stroke, drain placement, line placement, all heart catheterizations, peripheral angiograms, IVC placement, and temporary pacemaker insertion. Clinicians must be able to read telemetry strips and titrate medications. Familiarity with various intravenous medications is required. Experience with peripheral angiography cases, interventional radiology, and neuro interventions is preferred. The patient care team includes charge nurses who sometimes take assignments. There are cath lab technicians available as needed. Shifts are scheduled as 8-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. On-call responsibilities include being on call 2-3 nights per week. Weekend on-call duties occur every 3rd weekend. On-call requirements also include 2 holidays per year. Floating is rare, and nurses will not take patient assignments outside their unit. Hospital scrubs are provided for all staff. Unit-specific orientation typically lasts 1 week, encompassing 4 shifts. The electronic medical record system used is Epic. Equipment utilized includes Philips monitoring equipment.
