Job Title: Triage Cardiology RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Outpatient Clinic Duration: 32-Week Contract Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Hours Experience: 1 year of experience working as an RN in an outpatient cardiology clinic setting and triage setting is required. License: RN License required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required Must-Have: - Assessment skills - Medication reconciliation skills - Ability to obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG - Ability to obtain vital signs - Pain assessment skills - Knowledge of patient health questionnaires/history/allergies - Arrhythmia interpretation - CPR and cardiac arrest response - Knowledge of hypertension management - Ability to administer oxygen - Ability to assess altered level of consciousness - Ability to engage in follow-up phone calls - Patient education skills, especially around lifestyle and medication adherence - Collaboration in quality improvement initiatives Description: This position is for a Triage Cardiology Registered Nurse. The role involves working with cardiology patients who may be preparing for or recovering from various procedures. Patients may have complex medical needs requiring careful assessment of symptoms, medication changes, and post-procedure complications. The clinic role is generally ambulatory and not procedural sedation or cath lab intra-procedure nursing unless specifically trained. Responsibilities include triaging patient calls and messages using clinic protocols and provider direction. The RN will reinforce medication instructions already provided by healthcare providers. Symptom assessment and appropriate escalation of care are critical, especially for urgent situations. The RN should escalate cases of chest pain, new or worsening shortness of breath, syncope, stroke-like symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, unstable vitals, or signs of complications. The role includes providing patient engagement through education regarding medications and lifestyle adjustments. The RN will participate in team collaboration and quality improvement initiatives. Familiarity with electronic health records is required.
