Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of neuro ICU experience and a MO or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Neuro ICU of a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • Care for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, neuromuscular disorders, seizure disorders, CNS infections, subdural/epidural hematomas, and neurotrauma including GSW, MVC, and spinal cord injuries
  • Perform ICP monitoring using EVDs and bolts
  • Manage vasoactive medications, central and arterial lines, CRRT, and hypothermia/hyperthermia protocols
  • Maintain spinal precautions as needed
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30), with option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
  • Uses EPIC for charting

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted at submission)
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Preferred certifications: TNCC and BSN
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, including 2 years in a neuro ICU setting
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Must complete 10 hours of stroke education (can be partially satisfied by NIHSS certification)
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias
  • Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and ABG interpretation required
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and titrating cardiac drips required
  • Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, EVD, and ICP monitoring required
  • Facial hair must allow for proper N95 fit testing or must be shaved

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical patients in a high-acuity ICU setting
  • Complete stroke education modules during orientation
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers must have an 18-month tenure with a required 3-month break in service
  • Floating will be limited to the same service line
