Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU travel assignment at an academic medical center in Ohio, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and proficiency with ventilators and ICP monitoring.

Details

  • Neuro ICU setting within a large academic teaching hospital
  • Day/night rotation schedule with 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM or 7:00 PM–7:30 AM), totaling 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend requirement; rotation occurs every 4 weeks
  • On-call is required
  • Patient ratio of approximately 1:1–2
  • Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Epic EMR; experience strongly recommended

Requirements

  • Active OH or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA-issued only)
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required
  • Proficiency with IV starts, telemetry, ventilator management, and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring required
  • Experience with arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and port access required
  • Neuro-specific skills required: EVD management, lumbar drains, post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery care, CVA/acute stroke management, TBI, and spinal cord injury
  • Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, HFNC, and ETT/NT suctioning
  • Medication skills required: continuous IV sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, procedural sedation, and IV insulin protocols
  • Cardiac monitoring skills required: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred; Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as 2nd reference); no coworker references accepted
  • Previous travel experience required; first-time travelers will be screened on a case-by-case basis

  • Responsibilities include comprehensive critical care nursing for complex neurological and neurosurgical patients
  • All candidates must complete Ohio state fingerprinting promptly upon contract signing; out-of-state candidates within driving distance will be required to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a fingerprinting packet by mail
  • RTO must be submitted in advance and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or less for the assignment
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same bill rate as travelers
  • Former employees of the facility are eligible after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
  • Parking is available for purchase through CampusParc with multiple permit options, including garage and surface lot access with shuttle service
