Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience.

• 53-bed NICU (with overflow, average census of 58) within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
• Patient population includes complex neonatal diagnoses across respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PDA, PPHN), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/musculoskeletal/endocrine conditions (NEC, NAS, sepsis, congenital anomalies, and more)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, PIV ultrasound, Tecotherm, and MOMs breast milk scanning
• Day shift: 0645–1915; Night shift: 1845–0715 (12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week)
• Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday/Sunday within each 6-week scheduling cycle
• Floating may occur to Neonatal PCU, Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds unit as a helping hand (unless the candidate has prior experience in those populations)
• No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize you, you may be floated to similar units

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment
• Epic EMR experience required
• Required skills include: vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines/CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube and epidural management, PCA and sedation/analgesic drip management, CRRT experience, aseptic/sterile technique, foley insertion, g-tube/j-tube management, and bedside procedure support
• Experience with EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), and baby-side ECMO preferred (manager has shown flexibility on these specific skills)
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
• Former employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated from a permanent position for at least 1 year before being eligible
• First-time travelers may be considered with manager approval depending on current staffing needs
• Travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled; unit requirement includes the day of the holiday and the eve and/or day after, every other holiday while contracted
• RTO requests require manager approval; candidates with significant RTO needs may be required to extend their contract
• Robust unit support includes a charge nurse, resource nurse, unit secretary, IV/VAT/PICC team, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors — all available 24/7 where noted
• Orientation includes a NEO orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Scheduling is determined every 6 weeks based on unit needs after the core team schedule is finalized; the Clinical Supervisor will provide dates of need
• Scrub color: solid navy; long-sleeve underlayers must be solid navy or white; pediatric-friendly scrub tops required; no tight scrubs or other organizational branded attire
• 'Bare Below Elbow' policy applies in the nursery — no watches, rings (real or plastic), permanent jewelry, or artificial nails
• Parking is provided at no cost
