Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a mixed-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry Oncology unit at an academic cancer hospital in Ohio, with 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required and Epic proficiency needed.

Details

  • Mixed-acuity PCU/MS Tele unit caring for medical oncology patients, with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
  • Patient population includes a variety of solid tumor and blood cancer diagnoses across a high-acuity setting
  • Staffing ratios target 1:4–5 and may vary based on unit needs
  • Day and night 12-hour shifts available (7:00–19:30 / 19:00–7:30); candidates accepting a rotating contract may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination based on department needs
  • Weekend shifts are variable
  • Floating is required to units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Epic EMR experience is required
  • Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Teaching/academic hospital setting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of current, continuous inpatient nursing experience required — acute care experience must be current and active within the last 12 months
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Proficiency in core IV therapy skills including peripheral line care, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias and perform telemetry monitoring
  • MS/Tele experience required; PCU experience is not required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • 2 professional references required — at least 1 must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as 2nd reference); coworker references are not accepted
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program

Additional Information

  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • Chemotherapy administration competency is not required; optional 2-day chemo training course is available for interested candidates
  • Pediatric patients are occasionally present on this unit but are extremely rare and would typically be managed by permanent staff — pediatric experience is not required
  • Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly upon contract signing; candidates outside Ohio within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location, and those further away will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with your profile and will be built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Former employees of this facility are eligible after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
