Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg-Tele Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs Zone 1 region, requiring a CO or compact RN license and 2 years of MS-Tele experience.

Details

  • Float pool position within Zone 1, covering Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More in the Colorado Springs, CO region
  • Acute care setting with no home base facility; floating required across all five zone facilities
  • Units include General MS-Tele and specialty areas such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
  • Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine diagnoses
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts on a 7-7 schedule
  • 6-9 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule
  • May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds with appropriate skillset) and PCU/Stepdown
  • Rare call or standby requirement, primarily for low census situations
  • May be required to participate in Holiday Rotation
  • Schedules released 4-6 weeks in advance; assignment may follow single-facility or Just-In-Time (JIT) format with facility assigned 1-2 hours before shift start
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
  • Designated Charge Nurse on each unit who typically does not take a patient assignment unless necessary
  • Nurse aides available on units
  • Respiratory therapy equipment used including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP

Requirements

  • Active CO or Compact (NLC) RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA)
  • Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele nursing experience required
  • Prior neuro experience preferred
  • Must be flexible to float across multiple facilities and acuity levels within the assigned zone
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple med/surg and telemetry units, adapting to varying specialties and acuity levels as assigned
  • Travelers are expected to secure housing that allows them to meet the float requirement across the entire zone, regardless of preferred location
  • Must reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs zone city center to be eligible for this position
  • First float assignment will be communicated on or before the Monday start date, with subsequent assignments varying by schedule
  • All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Must be available in-state for orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
