Job Title: MRI Technologist I Profession: MRI Technologist Specialty: - Duration: Direct Hire Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Required certifications must be held Certifications: ARRT (R)(MR) and BLS required Must-Have: Must be proficient in MRI scanning techniques Description: The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanners, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, and patient monitoring equipment. Examines requests and verifies orders for each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exams. Contacts ordering provider when discrepancies are found. Properly identifies patients using two patient identifiers and assists them while offering a brief explanation of procedures. Prepares patients for procedures with full explanations and documents on appropriate worksheets. Interviews patients to obtain complete medical histories. Reviews electronic medical records to obtain pertinent clinical histories for inpatients, ER, and outpatients. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed. Assumes responsibility for exams from beginning to completion of dictated results. Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. Records contrast type and amount upon request. Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes additional or reconstructed images and measurements as instructed. Performs basic patient care functions and informs appropriate personnel of any changes in patient conditions. Initiates life support measures when necessary and assists in emergency medical procedures. Performs MRI scanning and assists medical personnel during invasive procedures. Practices proper sterile technique in the preparation of supplies. Performs all invasive procedures following bloodborne pathogen, isolation, and infection control policies. Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Follows appropriate radiation safety standards for self, employees, patients, and family members. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department manager or supervisor. Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in environments with significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases. Adheres to fire and safety procedures. Attends required in-service classes and safety modules. Operates the radiology computer system for entering orders and charging procedures. Documents contrast administration properly. Maintains work areas in a neat and orderly fashion, keeping them stocked and clean. Assists other medical personnel when performing exams or services in conjunction with an MRI scan. Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for staff and patients in proximity to magnetic fields.
