Job Title: MRI Technologist Profession: Clinical Professional Specialty: MRI Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Monday through Friday Hours per Shift: 2:30 PM to 10:00 PM Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience License: Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: MRI experience (2 years preferred) Description: Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the patient body for diagnostic purposes. Performs MRI examinations according to departmental policy and protocols. Includes preparing and positioning patients for MRI procedures of various parts of the body. Positioning includes setting up equipment and patient in relation to each other to provide the best demonstration of the body part under study. Performs Quality Control tests on department equipment, reporting any discrepancies. Collects and evaluates relevant examination information from scheduling, patient, and referring physician, including screening information. Maintains departmental records and patient information according to policy. Is responsive to patient physical and psychological needs. Keeps patients informed. Explains all procedures in a clear and concise manner without causing unnecessary anxiety. Listens to and answers patient questions with patience and courtesy. Performs safety procedures for outpatients, inpatients, patient families, and for staff. Screens patients and personnel for any metal objects or implants that would cause harm to the patient or equipment. Ensures that no individual enters the scan room with metal objects or contraindicated implants. Evaluates results of scanning procedures for quality and completeness. Manipulates images using console keyboard and mouse for physician display. Recognizes problems and rectifies issues regarding operations selected. Sends images to PACS system, evaluates the exam for completeness, and verifies the exam in a timely manner. Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities. Maintains accurate documentation on logbook worksheet and charging of examinations and supplies. Seeks advice from appropriate resources when unsure of protocol or policy. Demonstrates independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical field. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Interacts with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face. Collaborates with external customers via telephone or face-to-face. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
