Job Title: MRI Technologist Profession: Clinical Professional Specialty: MRI Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM, with potential every 3rd Saturday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience License: Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology Description: Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the patient’s body for diagnostic purposes. Performs MRI examinations according to department policy and protocols. Includes preparing and positioning patients for MRI procedures of various parts of the body. Positioning includes setting up equipment and the patient in relation to each other to provide the best demonstration of the body part under study. Performs quality control tests on department equipment, reporting any discrepancies to the proper personnel. Collects and evaluates relevant examination information from scheduling, patients, and referring physicians, including screening information. Maintains departmental records and patient information according to policy. Is responsive to patient physical and psychological needs. Keeps patients informed. Explains all procedures in a clear and concise manner without causing unnecessary anxiety. Listens to and answers patient questions with patience and courtesy. Performs safety procedures for outpatients, inpatients, patient families, and for hospital staff. Screens patients and personnel for any metal object or implants that could cause harm to the patient or equipment. Ensures that no patient, visitor, or healthcare worker enters the scan room with metal objects or contraindicated implants. Evaluates results of scanning procedures for quality of results and completeness. Manipulates images through the use of console keyboard and mouse to display to the physician. Using terminal, can select all image display options. Recognizes problems and rectifies them with respect to selections made during operation. Sends images to the PACS system, evaluates the exam for completeness, and verifies the exam in a timely manner. Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities. Maintains accurate documentation on the logbook worksheet and charging of examination and all supplies. Seeks advice from appropriate resources when unsure of protocol or policy. Exercises independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
