Position Overview

As a Mental Health Technician in our Behavioral Medical Unit, you will play a vital role in supporting patients experiencing emotional, cognitive, and behavioral challenges. Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide direct and indirect patient care while helping create a safe, therapeutic, and compassionate healing environment.

What You’ll Do

Patient Care & Therapeutic Support

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, hygiene, ambulation, and therapeutic participation

  • Support psychosocial and behavioral interventions under RN supervision

  • Conduct patient safety checks and assist with meal supervision

  • Observe and report behavioral or physical changes to nursing staff

  • Participate in therapeutic activities and structured group processes

Behavioral Health Interventions

  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and intervention strategies when necessary

  • Assist with seclusion and restraint interventions according to policy

  • Foster a supportive, healing environment through compassionate communication

  • Encourage patient engagement and coping skill development

Clinical & Administrative Support

  • Assist with data collection and patient monitoring

  • Document patient care activities accurately and timely

  • Prepare admission charts, complete routine forms, and support clerical operations

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to implement individualized care plans


Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Current AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS Certification

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced behavioral health environment

Preferred

  • Associate’s or Technical Degree

  • Two years of behavioral healthcare experience

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification

  • Management of Assaultive Behavior certification
