Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical (GI/GU) position requiring 2+ years of med/surg experience and telemetry skills.

Details

  • Work on a Medical Surgical unit specializing in GI/GU care (Unit 6900) within a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, and GU medical overflow cases on a high turnover surgical unit
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-6
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Unit utilizes centralized telemetry monitoring; basic telemetry knowledge preferred
  • Administers drips including Heparin, Lidocaine (pain only), Bicarb, Bivalirudin, and occasionally stable non-titrated Amiodarone
  • Manages PCAs, epidurals, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) with various irrigation solutions
  • Performs procedures including foley catheter care, CBI, and TURP protocols
  • Follows established protocols for colorectal patients

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MO or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam demonstrating interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Skilled in IV therapy and phlebotomy
  • Experienced in blood product administration
  • Skilled in central line blood draws and PICC line management
  • Experienced in peripheral line care and management
  • Skilled in colostomy/ileostomy care and feeding tube management
  • Experienced in continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Skilled in administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
  • Experienced in cardiac monitoring and emergency response including telemetry remote monitoring
  • First-time travelers not accepted for this position

Additional Information

  • Provide excellent patient care with strong documentation skills and a collaborative team approach
  • Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Navy scrub color required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per contract; no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • Standard travelers may stay for an 18-month period, after which a 3-month break in service is required
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • Facial hair must allow for proper fit testing or must be shaved with no exceptions
