    Job Title: Point of Care Lab Technician Profession: Technologist Specialty: Laboratory Duration: Not specified Shift: Monday-Friday Hours per Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM Experience: Previous experience with phlebotomy and laboratory testing preferred License: Valid driver's license with a good driving record required Certifications: Any certification/licensure needed per state requirements; State of California only qualifies as testing personnel for waived testing, a minimum of licensed medical laboratory technician or licensed vocational nurse required Must-Have: Vaccination against COVID-19 is a requirement for all individuals; alternatively, those seeking an exemption must submit proper documentation supporting their request Description: This role involves performing waived laboratory tests in a remote or mobile setting under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. It requires monitoring the quality of reagents and the working condition of instruments. You will receive specimens from phlebotomists and couriers. You may operate a delivery van to bring the mobile lab to areas with a high volume of STAT testing when applicable. Responsibilities include entering patient demographics and test orders into the lab information system. You will check quality control for each test prior to running and reporting patient results. Ensuring QC is within appropriate limits and bringing problems to a supervisor or manager in real time is essential. Tasks may involve lab testing in point of care areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation. You will perform blood collection, including venipuncture and capillary specimens. Processing specimens and logging requisitions as needed is also part of the job. Close monitoring of the STAT board to ensure STAT turnaround time goals is expected. You will assist in maintaining an adequate supply inventory and ensure compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records. Troubleshooting problems related to clients, instruments, or computers is required as needed. Maintenance on automated instrumentation may also be part of the responsibilities. Recording quality control and maintaining QC records on all assays performed is essential. Additional tasks and procedures that align with your education, training, and abilities may also be required. You will be responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification, and reporting of department testing. Following all safety protocols as outlined in the safety manual is mandatory. The work environment will involve manual handling and may include lifting and moving up to 15 pounds on occasion. You can expect to work in areas where hazards associated with biological materials, hazardous substances, and radioactive material exist and are handled. Appropriate training will be provided regarding these hazards, and adherence to all health and safety policies is required at all times. While performing duties, frequent standing, talking, and hearing will be required, along with occasional walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with no color visual deficiency.
