Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs laboratory testing and analysis on patient specimens to assist physicians and healthcare providers in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The MLT functions as a Generalist across multiple laboratory departments while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing on blood, urine, body fluids, and other specimens.
  • Conduct testing in multiple laboratory areas including:
    • Hematology
    • Chemistry
    • Coagulation
    • Microbiology
    • Urinalysis
    • Blood Bank / Immunohematology
  • Accurately analyze, interpret, validate, and report laboratory test results.
  • Perform specimen collection, processing, labeling, and handling procedures.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
  • Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures according to established protocols.
  • Recognize abnormal or critical laboratory values and communicate results appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility policies.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Assist with proficiency testing, inspections, and accreditation activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff.
  • Support laboratory workflow in fast-paced and high-volume environments.
