Job Title: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician Profession: Medical Laboratory Specialty: Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician Duration: 16 weeks Shift: 7 AM to 7:30 PM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of one year preferred License: Certification required Certifications: Must be certified/registered by an accredited agency Must-Have: Graduated from an approved school of Medical Technology/Laboratory Science with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. Ability to manage workflow independently on weekends and holidays. Comfortable with routine phlebotomy. Description: To perform laboratory testing within the laboratory. This position operates on a 7 on 7 off schedule, working Wednesday through Tuesday. The shift is from 7 AM to 7:30 PM. Every Other Weekend will be required during the work week. Holidays will be worked if scheduled during the work week. Overtime is earned after 80 hours in a pay period. This position requires the ability to multitask and respond to code traumas effectively. Skilled in specimen acquisition is essential. Independent work is required. Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician provides technical support by performing analyses and tests. This work assists in the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases. Tasks include accessioning and ordering tests in the Laboratory Information System and processing specimens with referral to reference laboratories. The position involves operating, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment to ensure it operates efficiently and provides accurate results. Basic troubleshooting of equipment may be necessary. Documentation must comply with regulatory agencies and established laboratory policies. There is exposure to infectious clinical specimens, requiring strict adherence to sterilization and infection control protocols. The role demands accuracy, proficiency, and dedication while performing analytical testing on patient specimens. Candidates must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Qualifications/Skills: Must have knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, including infection control requirements and handling chemical and biological hazards. Familiarity with governmental and regulatory policies and standards is necessary. Physical requirements include normal to light office work, with the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. Candidates should be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods. Cognitive requirements include strong reading, writing, and calculating skills. Above-average social interaction skills are essential, along with the ability to work with minimal supervision and adjust priorities as needed. Language proficiency includes the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Candidates must comply with regulations concerning criminal background checks.
