Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Med Tech Duration: 143 days Shift: Varied 12 hours Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2+ years of Med Tech experience License: Active and Current American Society for Clinical Pathology /ASCP Certifications: American Heart Association BLS Must-Have: - Ability to work independently in all areas of the lab - Experience in hematology, blood bank, chemistry, microbiology, and phlebotomy - Bachelor’s degree or higher - Must have own vehicle Description: This candidate provides care of patient medical needs by performing procedures in the areas of hematology, chemistry, blood bank, microbiology, toxicology, and urinalysis. They test fluid and tissue samples to help providers properly diagnose and treat patients. The incumbent will ensure the most effective delivery of care while meeting and exceeding compliance, communication, and quality standards. They select, perform, evaluate, and monitor the performance of moderate to high complexity testing procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques. All procedures adhere to established protocols and comply with safety and infection control procedures. They recognize and react to indicators of test malfunction, locate and implement corrections, and document actions taken. The candidate evaluates the suitability of specimens for analysis, requesting new specimens when determined to be unusable. They assess the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures. They correlate quantitative and qualitative data with patient information, such as history and medications, to verify results. Practicing ethical standards, they maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to patient medical information. Candidates must display initiative for professional growth relating to trends and advancements in laboratory science. Phlebotomy may be performed as needed. The ability to work independently on varied shifts, including nights, weekends, or holidays, is essential. Other duties may be assigned within the scope of practice. Dress code is scrubs or business casual with a white lab coat. Previous supervisory signed reference from within the past two years of employment is required.
