Job Title: Med Lab Tech II Profession: Medical Laboratory Technologist Specialty: Not Specified Duration: 10 Weeks Shift: 7 Nights on, 7 Nights off Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum Experience Required License: ASCP or NCA registered Certifications: A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent Must-Have: Candidates must be capable of operating laboratory instrumentation and performing patient phlebotomy. Description: Responsible for performing laboratory analyses and quality testing independently while following well-defined criteria. Performs duties under minimal supervision. Maintains strict confidentiality of work-related information. Must have the ability to work well with patients, the public, and all healthcare professionals. Responsible for testing procedures, quality control, and proficiency testing to ensure that test results are accurate, timely, appropriate, and useful. This includes verifying specimen integrity, setting priorities, evaluating, and interpreting data, and taking appropriate actions per policy. Performs appropriate documentation and assists in the evaluation and implementation of new methods. Aids in the upkeep of policy/procedure manuals and participates in CAP inspections. Effectively utilizes resources and works to prevent waste. Responsible for the proper operation of laboratory instruments, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure timely and accurate test results. Operates lab instruments as assigned, performs instrument QC, documents results, and takes appropriate action. Understands the theory of instrument operations and mechanical functions and seeks help when necessary. Responsible for the proper use of laboratory information systems in ordering, receiving, canceling tests, and reviewing verification of results. Must document all actions appropriately in the computer system, including all preventive maintenance and quality control activities. Maintains patient confidentiality per established policies. Communicates information accurately, timely, clearly, and professionally to supervisors, pathologists, coworkers, and other health professionals. Follows through on communications and responds appropriately. Answers laboratory phones and directs inquiries or provides appropriate information. Interacts with clinicians and patients to assist with their needs while maintaining a good rapport with peers, management, and other medical staff. Adheres to and follows laboratory and hospital policies and procedures. Informs supervisors of any issues or problems relating to laboratory or hospital safety. Maintains a safe work environment and is knowledgeable of regulations pertaining to medical necessity and billing as applicable to the job. Completes mandatory education and participates in continuing education programs. Works towards meeting department performance improvement goals and performs other job duties as required. The work environment involves frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and stooping. May require lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs. Requires frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception needed for the interpretation of lab orders and proper collection technique. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissue and possible exposure to infectious materials, toxic substances, biohazardous materials, communicable diseases, or other conditions common to a laboratory environment. This position operates in a fast-paced, high-traffic work environment which may be interruptive and stressful. May be required to take call or work weekends and holidays based on departmental needs. Candidates must possess extensive experience in Chemistry, Roche cobas Pro/PureBlood Bank, and strong LIS with Cerner.
