Job Title: Scientist Profession: Scientist Specialty: Lab Duration: 13 Shift: 06:30-15:00 Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Must possess Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from recognized agencies Certifications: Certification must be maintained and kept current Must-Have: Excellent Transfusion Service (Blood Banking) skills Description: This position performs all routine and complicated laboratory procedures. Responsibilities include specimen processing and handling. Testing of patient specimens is required. The role involves calculating and reporting results. Performance of quality control procedures is essential. Operation and maintenance of instruments and equipment are required. The role assists in the development of new procedures and protocols. Phlebotomy and other patient-oriented tasks may be performed as needed. Other related duties may be assigned or directed. Meets expectations of applicable competencies. Performs laboratory procedures in the primary section to which assigned. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Makes minor repairs as necessary or notifies appropriate personnel for further assistance. Cross-training to other laboratory sections is required as needed. Assures compliance with the laboratory's quality control program. Calculates, enters, and verifies results of laboratory procedures. Utilizes the Laboratory Information System effectively. Provides notification and documentation of critical laboratory values obtained. Processes patient specimens while being mindful of pediatric specimen volumes. Participates in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new procedures. Demonstrates competence in performing assigned patient care responsibilities. Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate unique needs. Demonstrates adherence to established core values. Completes all required compliance and regulatory tasks, following applicable policies and procedures. May perform other duties as assigned. Education/Skills: Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant field from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training. Experience is not required for graduates from accredited clinical laboratory training programs. One year of approved clinical laboratory experience is preferred, including rotations through multiple laboratory sections. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Certification must be maintained and kept current. New graduates that are board certified or eligible must complete board certification within one year of hire.
