Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg/PCU/Tele RN for a Neuro Trauma stepdown unit requiring trach/vent and drip titration experience.

Details

  • Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting on a 28-bed Med Surg/PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma stepdown unit
  • Patient population includes neuro cases such as strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, and post-TNK/TPA patients, as well as trauma ortho injuries including hematomas, bleeds, falls, and farm/MVA accidents
  • Nurse to patient ratios of 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights, dependent on acuity
  • Nurse aide ratios of 1:9 days and 1:12 nights
  • RT equipment used includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring
  • Central tele monitoring is located off-unit
  • Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
  • Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 1900-0730
  • Self-scheduling model that opens 6 weeks in advance, balanced by the manager
  • Weekend requirement of every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Holiday requirement of typically 2-3 holidays in winter and otherwise every other holiday
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to sister Med Surg units covering mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc specialties
  • Charge nurse takes a full team assignment on nights and a smaller assignment on days

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required, with experience in this setting required within the last year
  • Drip titration experience required, including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, and Insulin
  • Home trach/vent experience highly preferred, though training is available for RNs open to learning
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on a neuro trauma stepdown unit, including titrating drips and managing trach/vent patients
  • Unit orientation includes 1 shift of general orientation and 1 shift with a preceptor
  • Dress code requires solid color scrubs of any color
  • All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
  • Candidates who previously worked at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
  • Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
