Pharmacist – Northern Cheyenne Service Unit (Lame Deer, MT)

Facility: Northern Cheyenne Service Unit (Indian Health Service)
Location: Lame Deer, Montana

Shift: 4-10s or 5-8s, depending on changing needs

 

Job Summary:

The Pharmacist provides comprehensive outpatient and ambulatory pharmacy services to patients of the Northern Cheyenne Service Unit. Responsibilities include dispensing medications, reviewing and verifying prescriptions, providing direct patient care, counseling patients, collaborating with healthcare providers, and ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based medication therapy. The pharmacist serves a diverse patient population while maintaining cultural sensitivity and complying with Indian Health Service (IHS) standards and federal regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, verify, and accurately dispense prescription medications.
  • Evaluate prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, allergies, contraindications, drug interactions, duplicate therapies, and dosing accuracy.
  • Provide medication counseling and educate patients on proper medication use, side effects, storage, and adherence.
  • Perform medication therapy management (MTM) and comprehensive medication reviews.
  • Monitor patient medication profiles and recommend therapy modifications based on clinical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Provide drug information and evidence-based recommendations to healthcare providers.
  • Participate in chronic disease management programs, including diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and anticoagulation management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, DEA, Indian Health Service (IHS), and facility pharmacy regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assist with formulary management, medication inventory control, and controlled substance management.
  • Participate in quality assurance, medication safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support pharmacy workflow and supervise pharmacy technicians when appropriate.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. 

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program.
  • Active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (if required by contract).
  • Ability to obtain federal credentialing and clinical privileges.
  • Knowledge of outpatient pharmacy operations and evidence-based pharmacotherapy.
  • Strong communication and patient counseling skills.
