Job Title: Registered Radiologic Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Radiology Duration: 13 months Shift: Day, Monday to Friday Hours per Shift: 9 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: IEMA Radiography License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Radiography (R)(ARRT) Must-Have: - Patient care - Patient safety - Previous radiologic technology experience in a procedural setting - Hypersensitivity reaction management Description: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver responsible for patients during a designated time frame. The role is specifically focused on the Heart & Vascular Institute. The patient population consists of those requiring invasive cardiology or invasive radiology studies. The technologist will assist the physician in all procedures and provide valuable service to patients and the team. Key responsibilities include administering contrast material as needed. The technologist recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. All functions and duties will be under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist. Assist with inventory and supplies. Check for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position. Compile pertinent clinical information pertaining to lab and pathology. Assist in instructing new staff as necessary. Document accurately and completely. Explain procedures to patients and provide care including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality. Accurately inform the procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications, radiation, and sponge/sharp counts. Perform on-call duties as assigned to meet departmental needs. Perform all essential functions of the Radiologic Technologist. Department-specific duties include administering and withholding contrast and treatment as appropriate. Assess patients for allergies. Experience with peripheral vascular work, venous central lines, tube changes, embolization work, and venous thrombectomy work is important. Taking late shift duties may be required. Experience with interventional neurology is preferred. Duties may also include dialysis work involving AV fistulas and tunneled dialysis catheters. Tube access and changes, as well as neuro procedures, are also part of the responsibilities. Demonstrate capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, follow directions, and complete detailed work accurately is essential. Demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others. Manual dexterity to handle small supplies is required. Ability to maintain a sterile field during procedures is crucial. Experience in pulling supplies for procedures is beneficial.
