Job Title: Registered Radiologic Technologist Profession: Tech Specialty: Vascular Interventional Radiology Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 9 Experience: Minimum Years of Experience Required License: IEMA Radiography License Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) ACLS (American Heart Association) Radiography (R)(ARRT) Must-Have: Associate's Degree in Related Field or Certificate in Radiologic Technology Description: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients during designated timeframes. This role focuses on providing care specifically in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The patient population consists of those requiring invasive cardiology or invasive radiology studies. The Registered Radiologic Technologist will assist physicians in all procedures and provide valuable services to patients and the team. Responsibilities include administering contrast material as requested by the physician. This can be done by means of existing IV lines or performing venipuncture to place new IV lines. The technologist must recognize and respond to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. All functions and duties will be performed under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist. The role involves assisting with inventory and supplies. It requires verification of correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position. Compiling relevant clinical information from lab and pathology is also part of the job. The technologist will assist in the instruction of new staff as necessary. Accurate and complete documentation of procedures is essential. Explaining procedures to patients and providing comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality is required. The technologist accurately informs the procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications, radiation, and sponge/sharp counts. Performance of on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned is expected to meet departmental needs. Department-specific duties include administering and withholding contrast and treatment as appropriate. Assessing patients for allergies is critical. Experience with various vascular work is necessary. Specific tasks include venous central lines, tube changes, and embolization work for venous and arterial cases. Venous thrombectomy work is also required. Experience with interventional neurology is preferred. Additional skills may involve dialysis work, tube access, and changes for several types of catheters. The technologist should be able to maintain a sterile field during procedures and can efficiently pull supplies for use. Demonstration of compassion and caring in patient interactions is essential. The ability to communicate effectively, follow directions, and complete detailed work accurately is required. Manual dexterity to handle small supplies is important for this role. Previous Radiologic Technology experience in a procedural setting is preferred.
