Description: The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients for a designated time frame and provides care. The focus is specifically on the Heart and Vascular Institute. The patient population consists of those requiring invasive cardiology or invasive radiology studies. The Registered Radiologic Technologist will assist the physician in all procedures and provide a valuable service to the patient and the team. Essential functions include administering contrast material according to the physician's request, performing venipuncture and placing IV lines. Recognizing and responding to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions is crucial. All functions and duties will be under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist. The technologist will assist with inventory and supplies. Checking for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position is required. Compiling pertinent clinical information related to lab and pathology is also essential. The technologist may assist in instructing new staff as necessary. Accurate and complete documentation is expected. Explaining procedures to patients and providing care, including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality, is part of the role. They will inform the procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications and perform radiation and sponge/sharp counts accurately. On-call duties and/or variable shifts may be assigned to meet department needs. Department-specific duties include administering and withholding contrast and treatment as appropriate. Assessing patients for allergies, performing peripheral vascular work, and venous central lines are essential tasks. The technologist will also carry out tube changes, embolization work (venous and arterial), and venous thrombectomy work. Experience with interventional neurology is preferred. Dialysis work, including AV fistulas and tunneled dialysis catheters, is also part of the responsibilities. Tube access and changes (G-tube, chole, neph, biliary, abscess, SPC) may be required. Neuro procedures, specifically cerebral arterial/venous work and kyphoplasty, are ideal for this role. The candidate should be able to maintain a sterile field during procedures and pull supplies as needed. Previous radiologic technology experience in a procedural setting is preferred.
