Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care (IMC) / Float Pool

 

Facility: Meritus Medical Center
Location: Hagerstown, MD
Start Date: 08/24/2026
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night 4x12-Hour (18:30 - 07:00)
Schedule: Every Other Weekend Coverage Required (12 Weekend Shifts Per Contract)
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes – Float between Med/Surg, IMC, Observation, Trauma Surgical, Joint, Stroke, Palliative & Renal, ED Inpatient, Women’s and Bariatric Surgery units
Call Requirement: None

 

Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients in the Intermediate Care (IMC), Progressive Care, and Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool. The RN will manage complex patients requiring close monitoring, cardiac telemetry, respiratory support, post-operative care, and management of high-acuity medical conditions including cardiac, neurological, renal, and trauma-related diagnoses.

 

Job Duties:

  • Provide direct nursing care for IMC, PCU, and Med/Surg Telemetry patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor changes in condition, and initiate appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to rapid response situations.
  • Care for patients with acute respiratory distress, septic shock, hypertensive crisis, CHF exacerbation, MI, NSTEMI, unstable angina, and trauma-related conditions.
  • Manage cardiac monitoring, cardiac drips (non-titrating), insulin drips, and vasoactive medication protocols as ordered.
  • Provide ventilator, tracheostomy, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula management.
  • Perform neurological assessments and care for stroke, seizure, traumatic brain injury, intracranial bleed, and post-neurosurgical patients.
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, midlines, peripheral IVs, blood transfusions, TPN, feeding tubes, and wound care.
  • Provide post-cardiac catheterization care including TR Band management and post-MI monitoring.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, anticoagulation therapy, thrombolytic agents, and patient-specific treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.

Requirements:

Licensure: Active RN License (State-specific license required)

Experience:. Minimum 2 years of IMC/PCU/Stepdown experience required (Hard Stop).

Certifications: BLS, ACLS & NIHSS

Other Requirement: Must have experience managing cardiac monitoring, telemetry patients, ventilators/tracheostomy care, blood transfusions, TPN, feeding tubes, and complex IMC-level patients.
