Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring comfort working across all ICU and PCU units at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

  • Float role covering all ICU and PCU units within an acute care teaching hospital
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
  • Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Required to work at least one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods
  • PCU average patient ratio of 5:1 and ICU average patient ratio of 2:1
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact state accepted pending)
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
  • Experience at a large Level I or Level II trauma facility required
  • Required skills: arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation and maintenance
  • Required skills: BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
  • Required skills: continuous IV sedation, emergency medication administration, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Required skills: dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Required skills: IV insulin protocol adherence
  • Experience with surgical wound care including drains and wound vacs required
  • Epic EMR experience required

Additional Information

  • Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital that is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics
  • Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
  • Facility is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • Prior charge nurse experience preferred
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous travel experience not required
  • All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, subject to case-by-case exceptions
  • Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are generally not accepted, though limited exceptions may apply for inpatient RN roles
