Description

American Traveler is seeking a Whole House Float RN comfortable working ICU, PCU, and MS units on night shift, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Whole House Float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units within an acute care teaching hospital
  • 13-week assignment on night shift, 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
  • ICU average ratio 2:1, PCU average ratio 5:1, MS average ratio 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
  • Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, so floating between units may occur 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract (2 holidays required during winter holiday period)
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact state may be accepted pending)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or Level II trauma facility
  • Experience working with patient ratios of at least 1:5 across ICU, PCU, and MS units
  • Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, and arterial line management
  • Skilled in blood product administration, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP)
  • Experience with ventilator management and chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, and administering emergency medications
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Level I trauma experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across ICU, PCU, and MS units as part of a whole house float role
  • Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital that is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
  • Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
  • Facility is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are generally not accepted; specific radius-based exceptions may apply for inpatient RN assignments
  • All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment at this facility are not eligible to return, subject to case-by-case leadership review
