Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Hematology/Oncology position requiring an active MI license and 2 years of oncology nursing experience.

Details

  • Work in the Hematology/Oncology unit of a teaching hospital's pediatric center, supporting a newly opened adult outpatient program within the children's hospital
  • Patient population includes those with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other blood dyscrasias requiring BMT, chemotherapy, and cell/gene therapy administration
  • Maintain a 1:2 patient ratio
  • Day shift schedule of 4x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • On-call responsibilities required

Requirements

  • Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (compact license not accepted)
  • Current BLS certification required; Chemo (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of hematology/oncology nursing experience required
  • Bone marrow transplant experience required (administration of cells not required)
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, port access/management, central line care, and blood product administration
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration, biotherapy, and management of oncologic emergencies preferred
  • Two professional references required from a manager or supervisor (charge RNs not accepted)

Additional Information

  • Administer cell and gene therapy, blood products, chemotherapy, and conditioning treatments
  • Provide supportive care and telephone triage services
  • Educate and support patients and families throughout treatment
  • Coordinate care and apply neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols as needed
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the contract
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Traveler pairs are not accepted for this position
  • Candidates previously employed by the health system within the last 12 months are not eligible to apply
  • Perm staff may return as travelers after a 1-year separation
