Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a GI/Endoscopy position at a Level I academic trauma center in Madison, WI, requiring Epic proficiency and hands-on moderate sedation experience.
Details
- Inpatient and outpatient endoscopy unit at a Magnet®-designated academic teaching hospital and Level I trauma center
- Day/evening shifts, 8 hours each, with rotating start times between 6:30 AM and 10:30 AM
- Weeknight on-call requirement; may be required to stay past scheduled end of shift to complete daily caseload
- Patient population includes adults undergoing GI and pulmonary procedures, some under general anesthesia rather than moderate sedation
- Procedures include ERCP, EUS, EGD, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, EBUS, esophageal varices and banding, and sclerotherapy
- RN-driven sedation assessment approach using the Ramsay Sedation Scale to manage targeted sedation levels
- Covers all levels of sedation care including pre-procedure, PACU/Phase I, and Phase II recovery
- EMR: Epic (required; experience within the past 12 months preferred)
- Floating required as needed
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required; CGRN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of GI/endoscopy RN experience within the last 3 years
- Level I academic trauma center or comparable large hospital experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Demonstrated experience recovering sedated patients from GI and pulmonary procedures (ERCP, EUS, EGD, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy)
- Proficiency in administering and monitoring moderate (conscious) sedation and monitored anesthesia care (MAC)
- Epic EMR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include pre-procedure assessment, IV placement, 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition, medication administration (Propofol, opioid analgesics, Versed, reversal agents), and post-procedure recovery
- Proficiency with endoscopy equipment including electrosurgical units, ERBE instruments, bronchoscopy carts, balloon dilators, polyp snares, lithotripters, and foreign body equipment required
- Specimen handling, labeling, and airway management are key components of daily responsibilities
- A telemetry exam (both adult and pediatric components) must be passed prior to starting the assignment — candidates have up to two attempts, with a third attempt available upon submitting a cardiac interpretation review course certificate
- Parking on-site requires a permit through UW Transportation; bus, park & ride, and private parking options are also available near the facility
