Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN ECMO Specialist for a night shift ICU position requiring both adult and pediatric ECMO experience and SC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the ECMO Specialist unit across CVICU and PICU settings within a hospital environment
  • Care for both adult and pediatric patients requiring ECMO support for conditions such as post cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, and ARDS/respiratory failure
  • Manage ECMO device during bedside cannulation and/or cannula repositioning procedures
  • Utilize specialized equipment including Cardiohelp ECMO console, Centrimag ECMO console, Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit, and point-of-care glucometer
  • Epic EMR system used
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend, subject to change based on need
  • Float required between CVICU and PICU units
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • 8-week contract length

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SC or Compact)
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Minimum 3 years of RN experience with required ECMO Specialist experience
  • Completion of ECMO specialty device course and required CMEs to maintain proficiency
  • Trauma Level I and Trauma Level II experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience within the specific unit
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Epic EMR required
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with nurse-driven ECMO protocols and care of patients on ECMO
  • Experience with ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, and dysrhythmia management
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and infection prevention protocols

Additional Information

  • Work alongside ICU RN and RT staff, with specific responsibility for ECMO device management following the ECMO order set and provider team direction
  • Provide care to both PICU pediatric patients and CVICU adult patients requiring critical extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support
  • Responsibilities include ECMO circuit priming and circuit changes as needed
  • Preferred experience includes teaching hospital, community hospital, and LTAC settings
  • Preferred prior charge nurse experience
  • Preferred additional skills include central line care/management, Impella, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) management
  • Floating to other units or campuses may be required based on census needs, limited to units where competency has been demonstrated
  • Pre-assignment testing and required modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
  • Orientation occurs every Monday
  • Travel experience not required, provided candidate has previous ECMO Specialist experience
