Job Title: Echo Tech Profession: Ultrasound Technician Specialty: Cardiovascular Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (Monday-Friday) Experience: Minimum three (3) years of applicable experience License: N/A Certifications: - American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Echocardiography - BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Recognizing abnormalities in structure and function - Distinguishing normal from abnormal findings - Patient positioning - Breathing techniques - Transducer positioning Description: To provide high-quality ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels for adult patients. Technical assistance with exercise and non-exercise stress testing. Handle other duties as required or assigned. Performs high-quality two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels. Identifies EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias. Utilizes knowledge of age-specific needs of patients in everyday duties and responsibilities. Understands complementing imaging and Doppler techniques, including when to implement these methods for specific clinical questions. Demonstrates the use of M-Mode technique for measuring cardiac dimensions at precise times in the cardiac cycle. Estimates the severity of valvular insufficiencies by mapping dimensions, orientation, and direction of the regurgitant jet. Assesses blood flow through the heart, including increased velocities, stenosis, regurgitation, and shunts with pulsed and continuous-wave Doppler. Uses contrast echocardiography when two-dimensional and color flow are suboptimal. Evaluates left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions and documents wall motion abnormalities. Recognizes congenital heart malformations and acquired pathologies. Completes studies according to updated protocols; recognizes needs and presents additional views, calculations, and measurements when necessary. Correlates clinical history with the exam to be performed and consults for clarification. Monitors, records, and documents appropriately utilizing computerized documentation systems. Prepares and assists patients in producing images in a timely manner for stress echocardiograms. Assists in performing transesophageal echocardiograms. Communicates results and responds to questions and concerns promptly. Maintains monthly correlation studies and statistics. Demonstrates troubleshooting skills for equipment failure. Participates in regional mobile echo and vascular services. Documents procedures accurately and assesses patients' physical ability to perform tests. Interprets and clarifies physician's orders efficiently. Provides thorough assessments of patients in crisis and notifies the physician when necessary. Displays proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias. Completes quarterly competency assessments in relevant areas.
