Job Title: Clinical Technician, Dialysis Profession: Clinical Technician Specialty: - Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 4/10's Hours per Shift: 4am-2:30pm or 9am-7:30pm (Monday - Saturday, will work 3 Saturdays in a 6-week period) Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience required License: Dialysis clinical technician certification required Certifications: BLS and CCHT Must-Have: Must be able to flip pods and conduct dialysis independently. Monitored by RN. Must pass two exams: medication calculation and dialysis during orientation. Description: Under the supervision of nursing staff, the clinical technician is responsible for the monitoring and direct care of patients on hemodialysis. Monitors patients on an ongoing basis and communicates information to the appropriate team member. Works as a member of the interdisciplinary team caring for the dialysis patient. Responds in emergency situations. Reinforces education to patients. Documents patient care and observations. Follows operational activities specific to the assigned unit. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Reports to work in designated attire, ensuring neatness and maintaining proper hygiene. Communicates with other departments, agencies, or service organizations. Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates the ability to plan work activities. Carries out doctors' orders within parameters of the role. Follows infection control policies and procedures. Responsible for helping to minimize waste in the assigned unit. Monitors and adjusts dialysis therapy in conjunction with team members, keeping in mind the age-specific needs of the population served. Serves as a resource for the patient. Demonstrates problem-solving methodologies for the benefit of patients and the patient care area. Maintains a neat and safe work area. Demonstrates technical and task-oriented skills such as cannulation and machine set-ups. Under the delegation of the Medical Director and under nursing supervision, administers prescribed medications. Performs blood drawing procedures. May be required to take on-call in acute settings. Stands and walks most of the time on duty. Lifts and pushes patients on stretchers and in wheelchairs. Lifts and carries dialysate solution containers. May be subject to hazardous wastes and materials. Uses a computer. Must pass a color vision test. Ability to respond to audible alarms is required. Demonstrates willingness and ability to work effectively in a complex and changing environment. Demonstrates willingness and ability to effectively relate to team members, patients, and other customers in a diverse environment. Demonstrates a caring and compassionate manner toward patients and their family members. Completes all required assigned in-services and online education.
