Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a 40-bed cardiovascular progressive care stepdown unit serving CV surgery, vascular surgery, and overflow medical cardiology patients
  • Manage post-operative patients following procedures such as open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomy
  • Perform and oversee epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (including phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine)
  • Maintain a 1:5 patient ratio and collaborate with charge RNs, PCTs, and HUC staff across day shift operations
  • Utilize Cerner EMR and operate Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various patient lift equipment
  • Float as needed to stepdown, medical-surgical, or ER inpatient holding units per facility guidelines

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina or compact state eligibility
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • Stepdown unit experience required
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Ability to meet weekend requirements (minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period) and flexibility to work holidays

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience within the past year with CV surgery and vascular surgery patient populations (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass)
  • CVICU experience
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment
