Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring an MD or Compact RN license and 2+ years of CVICU/open heart experience.

Details

  • Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes cardiac surgery (CABG, valve, CABG/valve), CAD (STEMI, NSTEMI, AFib w/ RVR, cardiogenic shock), vascular (peripheral bypasses, EVAR), and thoracic (VATS) cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Epic charting system experience preferred
  • Shift is 3x12-hour Days, 7:30 AM-8:00 PM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Floating required within specialty, sister units, and lower acuity areas as needed

Requirements

  • Active MD or Compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU/open heart experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, and PICC line management
  • Respiratory skills required include assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, HFNC, ABG interpretation, suctioning (ETT, NT), and ventilator management
  • Cardiovascular skills required include CABG care, IABP, post cardiac surgery care, pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, Swan Ganz monitoring, sheath removal, and valve repair/replacement care
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and emergency medications required
  • Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
  • Experience obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG required
  • Experience managing multisystem organ dysfunction/failure required
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required
  • Phlebotomy skills required
  • IV insulin protocol experience required
  • First-time travelers with extensive CVICU/open heart experience will be considered

Additional Information

  • Deliver comprehensive critical care nursing to complex cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical patients
  • Manage advanced hemodynamic monitoring and cardiac support devices as part of daily patient care
  • Collaborate with a specialized cardiovascular surgical team in a high-acuity ICU environment
  • Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments with no scheduling restrictions or special requests accepted
  • Candidates residing more than 50 miles from the facility are considered for this travel position
  • Returning staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a travefler
  • Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system after completing a prior assignment
  • Maximum RTO request is 7 days; requests exceeding 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the end of the contract
  • One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted depending on unit staffing needs
