Facility: LBH - Sinai Hospital
Location: Baltimore, MD

Duration: 14 Weeks
Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week, Every Other Weekend Required
Charting System: Cerner (Preferred)
Float Required: Yes – all areas including ED; patient ratios dependent upon unit requirements when floating
Call Requirement: No
Note: Mixed ICU environment with primary focus on CVICU. Must be able to care for fresh open-heart and post-cardiac surgery patients. Expected to take overflow ICU patients as needed.

Position Overview:

The CVICU Registered Nurse provides specialized critical care nursing services to patients with complex cardiovascular, cardiothoracic, medical, and surgical conditions. The RN is responsible for managing fresh post-operative cardiac surgery patients, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, life-support therapies, and high-acuity cardiovascular interventions within a mixed ICU environment.

Job duties:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing monitoring of critically ill cardiovascular and intensive care patients.
  • Provide direct care for fresh post-operative cardiac surgery patients arriving from the operating room, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, TAVR, and other cardiac procedures.
  • Monitor and manage advanced hemodynamic parameters using arterial lines, central venous pressure monitoring, pulmonary artery catheters (Swan-Ganz), and other invasive monitoring devices.
  • Administer and titrate vasoactive medications, cardiac drips, continuous sedation, neuromuscular blockade agents, insulin infusions, and emergency medications.
  • Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP therapy, high-flow oxygen, airway suctioning, and respiratory support.
  • Provide care for patients with Impella devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), ventricular assist devices (LVAD/RVAD), and advanced cardiovascular support therapies.
  • Monitor and manage patients receiving CRRT/CVVHD therapy and complex renal support interventions.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms, recognize dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate interventions for acute cardiovascular events.
  • Administer blood products and monitor for complications related to transfusions and invasive procedures.
  • Care for patients experiencing multisystem organ dysfunction, acute stroke, cardiac emergencies, and post-procedural complications.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, rehabilitation services, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, infection prevention practices, isolation precautions, and adherence to patient safety standards.

Requirements:

Licensure: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License

Experience: Minimum 2 Years Staff CVICU Experience Required

Certifications:

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
  • CALS
  • 16-Hour Maryland Approved Trauma Certification (Required by Week 27)

Other requirement:

  • Must be able to care for fresh open-heart and post-cardiac surgery patients
  • Experience with advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • Experience managing ventilated patients
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, LVAD/RVAD, and post-cardiac surgical patients
  • Experience with CRRT/CVVHD
  • Ability to float throughout the facility within scope
  • Travel experience not required
