Job Description & Requirements
Computed Tomography Technologist - (CT Tech)
StartDate: ASAP Available Shifts: 7.5 N Pay Rate: $2382.00 - $2455.00

This CT Technologist position offers the opportunity to join a Level III hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, working a consistent 7-on / 7-off night shift schedule. This structure provides extended stretches of time off to travel, recharge or explore the city, while delivering a predictable routine and strong work-life balance. Birmingham is a vibrant, growing city with a rich history and a modern, revitalized feel. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, it offers a unique mix of urban amenities and outdoor recreation. Residents enjoy a thriving food scene, craft breweries, live music, museums and cultural festivals throughout the year. The city is known for its welcoming Southern hospitality, affordable cost of living and diverse neighborhoods, making it attractive for both long-term residents and temporary professionals. Nearby parks, hiking trails and lakes provide easy access to the outdoors, while a dynamic downtown offers dining, arts and entertainment just minutes from the hospital. The hospital is a Level III facility that serves a broad patient population and supports a full range of medical and surgical services. CT technologists here work with a collaborative radiology team, emergency medicine providers, hospitalists and specialists to deliver timely, high-quality imaging. You can expect to utilize modern CT scanners, a digital PACS environment and an established EMR and RIS, all within a structured and supportive clinical environment. On the night shift, the typical caseload includes a mix of emergency department, inpatient and occasional urgent outpatient exams. Studies commonly performed include trauma-related scans, stroke protocols, chest and pulmonary embolism workups, abdominal and pelvic CTs, spine imaging and follow-up studies. You will be responsible for patient preparation, positioning, protocol selection, image acquisition and initial quality review, as well as documenting in the EMR and coordinating with radiologists for timely interpretation. Patient volumes on nights can vary, but you should anticipate steady activity with periods of high acuity, especially with emergent and urgent cases. The Level III designation means that you will see a broad spectrum of conditions, offering excellent exposure to diverse pathology and building strong clinical skills. The environment supports technologists who are detail-oriented, calm under pressure and able to prioritize efficiently. The role requires close coordination with emergency and inpatient nursing staff to manage transport and patient flow, including critically ill and limited-mobility patients. CT technologists play a key role in contrast administration, adherence to radiation safety and dose optimization, and maintaining accurate records and logs. Expect to participate in ongoing education related to protocols, safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts. This position is ideal for CT technologists seeking: A stable, predictable 7-on / 7-off night schedule Experience in a Level III hospital environment with varied and meaningful patient care An engaging city with a strong healthcare presence, cultural amenities and outdoor opportunities A team-based setting that values collaboration, professionalism and high-quality imaging
