Key Responsibilities- Implement occupational therapy treatment plans as established by the supervising Occupational Therapist in accordance with AOTA guidelines, applicable state and federal laws, and relevant practice acts.
- Assist residents in performing planned therapeutic procedures, including guiding and supporting patients through exercises and daily activity routines.
- Document occupational therapy services accurately in resident medical records in compliance with facility policies, including information required for billing and discharge planning.
- Monitor the resident's environment to identify barriers or needs that may impact therapy and recovery, and communicate recommendations to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Provide resident assessment data such as functional abilities, range of motion, self-care activities, and therapy minutes during defined observation periods as directed.
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and customer service programs to support facility goals and deliver a high level of service to all internal and external customers.
Required Qualifications- Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
- Active and valid state licensure or eligibility to practice as a COTA in South Dakota.
- Must practice exclusively under the direction and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, documentation requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Preferred Experience / Skills- Prior experience working in a skilled nursing, long-term care, or rehabilitation setting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback within an interdisciplinary team.
- Experience with resident assessment instruments and functional status documentation.
