The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides skilled occupational therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA helps patients improve their ability to perform daily living and work activities, supporting rehabilitation, recovery, and independence across various care settings.
Key Responsibilities- Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises and activities to improve Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Monitor, document, and report patient progress to the supervising OT
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs and adaptive techniques
- Utilize adaptive equipment and therapeutic modalities as directed
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation
- Ensure patient safety and maintain a clean therapy environment
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, PT, and speech therapy
- Follow all state, federal, and facility regulations and infection control policies
