Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Profession: Rehabilitation Therapy Specialty: COTA Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: COTA Description: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will work alongside an Occupational Therapist in a variety of therapy settings and areas. Under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist, the COTA will implement and execute the treatment plans for patients/residents. The COTA will commonly work with individuals who suffer from an illness, injury, or disability to help them overcome obstacles in their daily activities. Responsibilities include: Assisting in the practice of occupational therapy and activities requiring an understanding of occupational therapy but not requiring professional training in the anatomical, biological, and physical sciences involved. Practicing only under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist. Implementing the occupational therapy treatment plan as established by the Occupational Therapist in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations. Offering suggestions, providing feedback, and carrying out agreed-upon activities in a collaborative manner with the Occupational Therapist. Documenting occupational therapy services by charting in the resident medical record. Complying with facility policies and procedures for properly documenting services. Preparing required documentation for billing purposes and discharge planning as instructed. Helping residents perform their planned therapeutic procedures by administering appropriate exercises. Monitoring the resident’s environment to identify any needs or barriers that may negatively impact therapy and recovery. Observing and making recommendations for necessary accommodations to the Occupational Therapist and enacting those recommendations. Providing resident information needed for assessments according to facility policy during assigned observation periods. Participating in staff meetings, case conferences, and customer service programs as required. Delivering a high level of customer service to all internal and external customers.
