Job Title: Cardiac Cath Lab Tech Profession: Cardiovascular Cath Lab Tech Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: 3 years required in Cardiac Cath License: BLS, Radiology certification Certifications: ARRT preferred Must-Have: Must have 2 years prior experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory or invasive procedure area in an acute care hospital. Familiarity with computers, hemodynamic monitoring, and sterile operative techniques. Description: The Cardiovascular Tech I will assist physicians with all procedures, including Cardiac Catheterization, Angioplasty, Atherectomy, TEC, Rotablator, Valvuloplasty, Intra-vascular Ultrasound, Pulmonary Angiograms, Insertion of Intra aortic balloon pumps, and stents. The role requires acquiring the knowledge and skills to assist in the performance of all other procedures and new technologies. Prepare sterile trays for each procedure and organize specific equipment. Prepare patients prior to procedures by attaching EKG leads, performing betadine scrubs according to protocol, and draping patients. Assist the cardiac catheterization nurse in preparing patients for monitoring. Calibrate and test transducers for accurate pressure readings. Assist physicians throughout diagnostic and interventional procedures. Load and operate power injectors. Utilize and maintain standards for operating digital cine technologies, including protocols for storage and retrieval of patient images and hemodynamic records. Ensure proper downloading of all CD acquisitions. Assist nurses and physicians in supportive measures necessary to restore and maintain patients' well-being in emergency situations. Assist in the removal of procedural sheaths from patients after transfer to nursing care units or recovery rooms. Assist in the insertion of vascular closure devices for inter-vascular stability. Help with inventory control by notifying the appropriate individuals about diminished supplies. Assist in maintenance, calibration, and evaluation of all diagnostic and technical equipment. Lift a minimum of 40 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 100 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 4 hours a day. Identify and address the needs of the patient population served, modifying and delivering care specific to those needs. Communicate with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at their developmental and educational levels. Adhere to standards identified in the Organizational Competencies.
